HOW IT WORKS

From an open-web lead to preserved, reviewable evidence.

NewsForensics helps a team define what matters, discover relevant public sources, monitor recurrence, preserve the exact material it reviewed and coordinate a human-approved response.

01
DEFINE

Define the subject or claim

Start with a brand, person, claim, topic, headline or public URL. A precise query improves the relevance of the sources returned and gives the monitoring subject a clear scope.

  • Brand, person, claim, URL or topic
  • Private workspace query
  • No public accusation created
02
DISCOVER

Find open-web source leads

The workspace searches its existing records and, when internet discovery is enabled, a configured search provider. Each lead can include its title, URL, domain, snippet, search position and an available publication date.

  • Workspace and open-web discovery
  • Publicly reachable sources
  • Results treated as unverified leads
03
MONITOR

Watch for recurrence

Create a monitoring subject and check it manually or on its selected cadence. Priority subjects are eligible every six hours; other subjects can run daily or weekly. Normalised URLs help identify repeat appearances.

  • Manual and scheduled checks
  • First seen and last seen
  • Repeat-appearance count
04
REVIEW

Review before drawing a conclusion

New mentions enter a review queue. An authorised user can open the source, mark the lead reviewed, ignore it or preserve it. Discovery never assigns a verdict automatically.

  • Review, ignore or preserve
  • Tenant-scoped records
  • Human decision required
05
PRESERVE

Capture the source as evidence

For a supported public source, the server stores a compressed snapshot and records the final URL, capture time, HTTP status, content type, content size and cryptographic fingerprints of the content and response headers. HTML text is extracted for review.

  • SHA-256 content fingerprint
  • Snapshot and capture metadata
  • Assign to an investigation case
06
RESPOND

Investigate and respond accountably

Preserved evidence can be connected to a case, discussed by the team and used to prepare a response or report. Approval controls keep an unreviewed signal from becoming an external conclusion.

  • Cases and evidence library
  • Draft, review and approval
  • Auditable activity history
COVERAGE AND LIMITS

Discovery is evidence support—not proof of origin, falsehood or intent.

NewsForensics does not crawl the entire internet. Coverage depends on publicly indexed and reachable sources; private accounts, closed groups, paywalls, deleted pages and heavily scripted sites may not be available. A first-seen or dated result helps an investigator build a timeline, but it does not prove who originally created a claim. Independent verification and human review remain essential.

YOUR NEXT STEP

Prepare evidence for a reviewer

1. Save and inspect

Capture a permitted public page or upload a file. Read the saved content; a URL or note alone is a reference.

2. Link and explain

Link the item to a case. Record what it supports, what conflicts and what remains unknown. Check its saved fingerprint and custody history.

3. Hand off and approve

Download the reviewer bundle or open the case assessment. A different authorised reviewer approves the evidence-linked assessment before a briefing.

Preservation and fingerprints do not establish factual truth or legal liability. Read the FAQ or follow the fictional sample.
